To celebrate their hundred-year aniversary, Herman Miller wanted video documentation of their extensive archives. At the start of the project we had to ask ourselves, “where to begin telling a story around hundreds of thousands of intricate, iconic, and world famous pieces?” Almost every piece shown in the videos has influenced not only the office industry, but office culture across the globe. From the orignal cubicle, to the office chair itself, Herman Miller has defined what a quality workspace can be. With creative direction from Carson Davis Brown, we worked to create a series of videos that not only give life to the works, but the archive itself. We wanted to show boxes opening, shelves being pulled, posters sifted through in a way that was lightning fast.
The videos were to have no music, no added emotion other than slick editing and the artwork itself. To breath life into the cuts we used extensive sound design, real recorded foley sounds from inside the warehouse and massive libraries of recorded sfx.
